Selection of Parliamentary Committee Chairs Initiated After Nine Months

Kathmandu: After a nine-month period following the House of Representatives' election, the process of nominating leadership for parliamentary committees has commenced.

During a recent session of the House of Representatives, the Speaker announced that the election for chairs of all 10 thematic committees is scheduled for Monday at 3:00 pm. An election program has been outlined, allowing nomination papers to be submitted between 11:00 am and 4:00 pm today, informed Parliament Secretary Padma Prasad Pandey.

Among the joint committees and thematic committees under the House of Representatives, the allocation of leadership positions is as follows: Nepali Congress (4 seats), CPN (Maoist Center) (2 seats), CPN (UML) (3 seats), CPN (Unified Socialist) (1 seat), and Janamat Party (1 seat).

The House of Representatives includes various committees such as the Finance Committee, International Relations and Tourism Committee, Industry and Commerce and Labour and Consumer Affairs Committee, Law, Justice and Human Rights Committee, Agricultural Cooperatives and Natural Resources Committee, Women and Social Affairs Committee, State Affairs and Good Governance Committee, Infrastructure Development Committee, Education, Health and Information Technology Committee, and Public Accounts Committee.

The new leadership for these committees will be elected on Monday, ushering in a renewed phase of parliamentary operations after a prolonged period of committee leadership vacancies.
